Neues Vinyl bei ECM zu Ostern 2021

Three albums that opened the ECM release year 2021, Garden of Expression by Joe Lovano Trio Tapestry, Human by Shai Maestro and Uma Elmo by Jakob Bro, are now available on vinyl:

Garden of Expression, "is about the spaces between sounds as much as sounds themselves – but, as in meditation, they´re spaces that resonate with stories." noted The Guardian in an in depth review of the new Trio Tapestry album. The music Joe Lovano writes for this group - tenderly melodic or declamatory, harmonically open, rhythmically free, and spiritually involving - encourages subtle and differentiated responses from his creative partners. Joe describes their interaction as “magical”.

"Lovano can render a memorable musical phrase into a poem, and his selfless cohorts are equally attuned to the vitality of restraint."
Steve Futterman, New Yorker

"Perhaps the most impressive thing about ‘Garden Of Expression’ is the emotional range these three pull from this music. From the spare, prayerful asceticism of ‘Zen Like’, to the sprightly post-bop interplay of ‘Dream On That’ and the epic sweep of the title tune, Trio Tapestry suggests a universe of possibilities within its deeply spacious sound."
J.D. Considine, Downbeat

Shai Maestro's new album Human, where his outgoing, highly-communicative band with fellow Israeli Ofri Nemheya on drums and Peruvian bassist Jorge Roeder becomes a quartet with the inspired addition of US trumpeter Philip Dizack is taking the music forward while also respecting its sense of tradition. Shai’s expansive pianism is well-matched by Dizack’s alert, quick-thinking approach to improvising.

“The density and virtuosity contrasts with moments of profound space, as on the title track, a chorale that ebbs and flows with poignancy.” - Gary Fukushima, Downbeat

"Altogether a rich and powerful delight, played with remarkable empathy and subtlety by a well-matched band of the top musicians of their generation. One to play often, and discover more and more, and yearn to see such a band live again!" - Chris K, Bebop Spoken Here

With Uma Elmo, his fifth album as a leader for ECM, Danish guitarist Jakob Bro presents a new trio featuring Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Spanish drummer Jorge Rossy.

"This album is an antithesis to fidget culture. It resets listening, and exhumes a quiet concentration that’s so often neglected." - Debra Richards, Jazzwise

"Bro making fascinating use of loops, Henriksen producing his most lyrical flights, and Rossy proving himself to be a master colourist in this largely tempo-free music. Highly recommended, then." - Richard Williams, The Blue Moment

"What is fascinating is how much this record continues to offer new perspectives even after multiple listens. A Nordic beauty that is nevertheless bound neither to place nor time." - vinyl-fan.de
