Today is the world's biggest celebration of everything fringe as we mark 70 years since the first ever fringe took place in Edinburgh!

There are events taking place all over the globe ranging from a ceilidh in Adelaide, Australia, a special cabaret night in Limerick, Republic of Ireland and a fringe film competition in Vancouver, Canada!

Here in Edinburgh, the Fringe Society team are visiting 26 charities across the city to gift Fringe Days Out. In the afternoon the Fringe Bus will be travelling around with Forth 1 presenter Micky Gavin who'll be gifting 'Random Acts of Fringe-ness’ to members of the public.

Welcome to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!

Das Schottland- und weltweit größte Kulturspektakel FRINGE hat in Edinburgh letzten Freitag begonnen.

Today’s the day! Friday 05 August marks the official start of the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe with more than 50,000 norm-defying performances of over 3,200 shows set to excite, inspire and surprise audiences across the city.

Whether you’re already in Edinburgh, or planning a trip in the very near future, we hope you have an amazing Fringe 2016 and we have a final checklist to help you on your way.

Build your perfect Fringe

Get your hands on the BRAND NEW official Fringe App which is available to download in the App Store and on Google Play.

You’ll be able to keep your schedule organised thanks to the new personal planning calendar which syncs saved and favourite shows with your online account. When you’re feeling impulsive, just tap the ‘Nearby now’ button and find a show that’s about to start. It’s a great way to discover something unexpected.

Make the most of our 2for1 days

Monday 08 and Tuesday 09 August are the Fringe 2for1 days where hundreds of shows offer tickets on a 2for1 basis. Head to edfringe.com and explore all the shows giving you double the fun for your money.

2for1 throughout the Fringe (and much more!)

If you fancy a 2for1 ticket offer throughout the Fringe, plus your own exclusive Box Office and 10% off merchandise in the edfringe shop, consider becoming a Friend of the Fringe. Membership starts from £30 a year and can be purchased online or from the Friends Box Office which can be found on Old Assembly Close just off the Royal Mile.

Monday 11 – Tuesday 12 August: 2for1 days
Nearly 1,300 shows are available in our 2for1 ticket deal on 11 and 12 August – have a look at what’s on.

Wednesday 12 August: Half Price Hut opens
The Virgin Money Half Price Hut has new shows available at half price every day from 12 August. Tickets are only available to buy in person, but you can review what’s available on the Fringe App or on our website, or become a Friend and you can pick them up from the Friends Exclusive Box Office.
