Nigel Lovell / Oh So Funny / PBH's Free Fringe, United Kingdom - England

Russell Howard, Miranda Hart and Tim Minchin ... what have they got in common? They all once received one-star reviews. This show presents a fresh daily line-up of one-star wonders who've proved their reviewers wrong. Last year's guests included Patrick Monahan, Kevin Day, Alfie Moore and many other excellent comedians. It was also featured on BBC2's Edinburgh Nights with Sue Perkins. This year's line-up is even more exciting. All hosted by the wonderfully funny Nigel Lovell. ‘An absolute delight’ (Kate Copstick, Scotsman). **** (TheatreExtra.blogspot.co.uk).

'A show of elegant, wistful beauty' **** (Guardian). 'A splendid blend of talents imbued with both elegance and wit' **** (Times). Tracing pathways in space, four jugglers and four ballet dancers share a stage for the first time. Both these formalised systems are ephemeral journeys through time and space, leaving an unseen trace, like an imaginary architecture. 4 x 4 is a celebration of where these paths meet. Directed by world renowned juggler Sean Gandini, choreographed by the Royal Ballet's Ludovic Ondiviela, with original composition, Suspended opus 69, by Nimrod Borenstein.

United Kingdom - England, Bear Pit Theatre

What does it mean to be 17? To be young with the world at your feet, or old before you’ve had a chance to live? Using the memories of people aged from 69 to 96, they recall life at that age, whenever and wherever that was. We journey through time to tell their stories and find the truths of that one elusive year. Bear Pit Theatre explores youth through the prism of age; these are tales of regret and joy, tricks of memory and nostalgia, and the transience of youth.

Brian is confused. The Wardrobe Ensemble tell the story of the class of ‘72 with a handsome funk guitarist and some spacehoppers. Was it easier back then? Where did we go wrong? A brisk romp through the ins and outs of those excellently awkward first sexual encounters. ‘Genuinely hilarious’ ***** (Exeunt on RIOT).
